This isn't happening any time soon since I have to find homes for my mollies but I want to plan this out.

It's a 29 gallon tank with a Regent 30-60 power filter.
Temperature is always about 77 F
I will be changing the tank over to sand (probably play sand) with lots and lots and lots -did I meantion lots? of rocks. and then just a few live plants to add some color.

I figured since my name is auratus I might as well have some so I wanted to get 1 male Auratus and 4-5 females.
I was also interested in some kind of catfish, maybe some kind of syndadontis? I was thinking about a raphael or something.
Or another option would be some danios as dithers.

Any suggestions what to do or how to go about doing it?

First off auratus are too agrisive for a tank that size :/
heres some good uns

-for mbuna if that's what you want-

Pseudotropheus saulosi
Pseudotropheus acie
Iodotropheus [ :p something :p ] (rusty cichlid)
and any labidochromis species
and for catfish synodontis petricola

dunno about the raphael cat? but from what i hear maybe (if a raphael a type of plec) maybe some people don't have luck with plecs the eyes get eaten but for a 29 gallon you'd have to stock less agrisively
useing fish such as the ones afore mentioned -_- and shouldn't have anything to worry about most people don't-synos are better- and this only aplies if a bristlenose fits in a 29
there are others that'll work so if you see something ask someone should be able to help here

Tank setup probally six to eight fish, lot's of rock's caves and sand's best for substrate(more activity they love to dig and will apreciate sand)
ph 7.5 to 8, 8.5 is max,
buffering materials may include rocks or coral sand/gravel used as substrate or filter media

I've had auratus before in a 30 gallon and there wasn't any aggression between the females (I got rid of the male) and I didn't have it nearly as rocky as I want to make this tank. I was talking to semper and she said that a species only tank of auratus with only one male would be ok...

Your actually the first person who's told me 30 gallons is too small for a small "colony" of auratus...

But I'll wait for some more replies and if majority says no then I guess I'll look into some of the ones you mentioned.

All right, I know cichlidaddict, says minimum for demasonis should be 50 gallons and their dwarf just agrisive, so was going with that cause
CA always right me thinks
