Hi all, I've been trying to do plenty of research but there is quite a lot of conflicting information out there  so I'm going ask for an opinion on a possible stocking (apologies as I know this is such a common question)

My tank is a 65l/17G tank with dimensions of 60x30x35 cm and moderately planted. The filter is capable of 700 lph and I am currently in my fishless cycle waiting for nitrite to drop.

I was thinking of stocking
7 x Rummynose Tetra as a schooling fish (I love these  )
4 x Otto (A later addition as I've heard they are sensitive to a new tank) as a bottom dweller/algae eater
1 x Bolivian Ram/Dwarf Cichilid/Dwarf Gourami as a centre piece fish

I'm not so sure about the centre piece fish as I would like it to be a top dweller and I'm not sure if these are. I would be doing 20% water changes twice a week and wouldn't get this stocking for quite a while. Would these fish/ stocking be ok for this size of tank?

Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Axy! :good:

if your looking for a good centerpiece fish that is top dwelling i suggest bettas gouramis and things like that rams are more of inbetween i guess you could say.

Is this stocking ok, not over stocked at all? Are bettas ok with tank mates, I always thought they were to be kept on their own, I'm new to this haha

Thanks for the reply!

your not overstocked at all, well at least i dont think so but my betta has been with xray tetras a BN plec amano shrimp harlequins and i know people dont advise it but guppys that were show grade all purple but had to get rid of them because i didnt know i got a female and they reproduced like rabbits so they are no more but they lived with a betta so yes it depends on the betta i suppose.

I have a betta with danios ottos corys and platys and I have no probs with them my betta is very relaxed and happy even with danios charging around the tank lol

Thanks for the replies guys...I think I'm may choose the Betta, they are quite spectacular fish! I was worried about that as rummynose's are quite active as well. I just hope these type of fish will be happy in such a tank, as it is relatively small!

Thanks Again!

Just make sure there's some cover some where just incase the fighter does get stressed. My fighter was shy to begin with.

Heres my tank...would this be sufficient?

The plants will grow pretty tall..I assume this would give them more cover?

Too many questions...sorry

Lovely looking tank :good: Will look even better once the plants start to grow in :)
Is it an open topped tank? If it is, and you decide to go for a betta, just be sure that the water level is a good few inches below the top of the glass- they're good jumpers.

Ah cheers, its my first one so thats nice to hear! It has a glass cover...although there is a little feeding hole, so I hope he doesn't make a bid for freedom!

I tend to put some floating plants in for my bettas, which might help you until your others have grown a little more.

They like to find a perch on a frond and snooze.

One of my fighters has a large artifical leaf that is in the tank in such a way that he can either lay on top of the leaf or skulk around underneath the leaf, he is very partial to his leaf and often snoozes on it. I guess its his time out corner from the madness of the female guppies that share his tank and hunting down the ever expanding cherry shrimp population. Another fighter of mine has a thick clump of plants (was supposed to be planted but the cory's kept knocking it free) which now float at the surface and he likes nothing more than wriggling into the tangle and resting just under the surface.
