Hi

My 110 Litre tank has finished the fishless cycle and done the qualifying week. So at the weekend I purchased 10 guppies as my starter fish.

My water Ph is 7.6.

Over the next few months I would like to add the following

4 No Sterbai Corydoras
4 No Otocinclus (I would like an algae eater type of catfish, Ive researched that Chinese Algae Eaters can become dominant in the tank so I was thinking of Otocinclus, but Im open to suggestions)
2 No Kulli Loach

I have a smooth substrate so the Kulli and Corys will be ok. I have hideaways for the Kulli loaches as well.

What other fish can I add that will be peaceful with the others or am at my limit with the above?

I really love Clown loaches but I know my tank is too small, is there a smaller loach available that would vbe suitable for my tank?

Thanks

Zeb

really, you should probably have at least 5/6 of each of those types of fish.

im not a big fan of kuhlis, especially in tanks where space is at a premium. from what ive seen they rarely venture into view, and to me fish i never see is wasted bioload. i may be wrong about the kuhlis, but even in my tank, which is only slightly larger than yours, i avoid fish i wont ever see because i cant get much in it, whats the point filling it with fish i cant see ?

ive got one small synodontis in my tank, the only fish i never see. id remove it if i knew where it was

Corys should be in a group of 6 or more really. My opinion of Khuli loaches differs, I have four in my 200 litre and I really like them, sure they don't come out all the time like most fish, but mine come out in the evenings a lot.

+1 all the ones you want to keep should be kept in groups of 6+.

If the tank is a 3ft, I would recommend 6-10 dwarf chain loaches or 6-10 sterbai Corys or 10 khuli loaches. It is probably best to stick to only one of those "type" of fish.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Kitty Kat - Yes the tank is 3ft.

Ive taken heed of your advice, but can you tell me why I shouldnt stock the khuli, dwarf loaches and corys together, are they too boisterous together?

Thanks

Zeb

all 3 do better in groups, and a group of each would be too much, 1 slightly larger group as suggested is much more suitable :good:

It's not that they're too boisterous; it's that they all prefer to be in larger groups than you've proposed and they're all bottom dwellers.

If you have a decent number of each species (6+), you'll have an awful lot of fish competing for the same space. You'll have happier, healthier fish if you decide on one or two specoes from your list and have a larger amount of each one.

Yep, just because they would be happier in a larger group :) 3ft is not an awful lot of bottom area to compete over.
