Stocking Question..

Good evening all, hope this thread finds you all well.

So, hopefully now only a week or two until the end of my fishless cycle (Ammonia down from 4ppm to 0 within 12 hours, no sign of decrease in NitrIte just yet).

I'm going over to a new L.F.S that i have found tomorrow, gonna have a little look around, ask a few questions on stock, etc etc..

What i would like, firstly, is a shoal of maybe 10 Cardinal tetra. As my water has a slight 'tannis' look from the bogwood, and a pitch black backround, i thought the Cardinals' would work fantastic.

I'm also thinking along the lines of maybe Black Tetra/Rummy Nose Tetra...depending on what sort of outfit this L.F.S is, obviously.

What do you think then? 10 x Cardinal, 6 Rummy nose/Black Tetra... dozen or so shrimp..?

What size is the tank? 120 litres? 180 litres? I can't quite remember..

10 cardinals and 10 of the other.. but the shrimp might fit better in your smaller tank as they would restrict possible stocking quite a lot.

Id probably put cardinals in as your second or third batch of fish into the tank, not the hardiest species in the world...

Im really loving Cherry Barbs, Rosy Tetras, Ember Tetras, Purple Emperor Tetras, White Cloud Mountain Minnows, Vietnamese Cardinal Minnows, Glowlight Danios, Beckfords Pencil fish and so many more at the moment...

Apologies KittyKat, it is not quite 120L, but neither is it 100L...

I was hoping to keep the smaller tank purely for baby/juvenile red Cherry Shrimp, then move them into the big tank once they are adults. The male Amano shrimp i have simply sees the small R.C.S as a '3 for 5 quid' snack!

Thank you MBOU, i shall look into your suggestion...i have Cherry Barbs in my small tank, i love everything about those fish!

You could try 8 and 8 then, maybe move the barbs to the larger tank and get something small for the small tank?

I mentioned the shirmp, because even adult cherries are quite small normally (at least all I have seen have been under 2cm) which is snack sized for a lot of fish.. it may be worth swapping the amano into the large tank and use the smaller as the breeding tank with some fish which won't bother the babies too much.
