i just want to get some ideas and research the fish and their combatability before i set up my big tank after the move......
50 gal /196l
i've found a filter for it and also a heater....the rest is going to have to wait until closer to set up time

but i was wondering what should i stock with.
i want a peaceful but active community and am scared of overstocking!

here's what i would like to start with

angelfish
one or two yoyo loaches
some male guppies
maybe some platy's

anyone have any ideas on numbers or other tankmates?
:thanks:

I dont know about angel fish or yoyo loaches but I know about the livebearers. If you want to breed the guppys and platys put them in at a ratio of 3 females - 1 male. So you should have 4 guppys and 4 platys, but you could add more. If you dont want to breed them put in all males (around 4 again)

The angels might eat the guppies could be wrong though

I doubt theyd eat the guppies if the angels were put in at a young age. One thing for certain is that they will eat the fry if you want to breed

I'd see a problem with the angels shredding the fancy tails of the guppys.
And it doesn't matter if their added at a young age, when big enough, they'll eat full grown neons,
So why not guppys?

Plus, watch out for them pairing up, if they do, all hell could break loose :good:

yip cheers maximus, my mate had angels and they nailed all of his neons in a few nights  , neons and guppies are roughly the same size

Female bettas are hit and miss... Sorority tanks work best when all the females are sisters, and sometimes even then there is fighting.

I would only have one angel if i did go that route...i can't be dealing with an agressive breeding pair if i got lucky enough for them to pair up.

I'd like some odds and ends as well as some shoaling fish...providing i had the room for them.

guppies- not sure about breeding tho if i had an angel or two it could be good food for them, even tho i don't particularly want to have fry coming out my ears :-S

You could just let it take its natural course and only a few or maybe even none will survive. Try harlequin rasboras if you want a shoaling fish.....stuning!

has anyone tried the www.thinkfish.co.uk ?

It has a community creator in there, and im wondering from the more experienced folks if you could play with it a bit and see if it's accurate???

Ive used it a couple of times, but sometimes it can be extremely inacurate sometimes.
