Hello:

I am planning on getting a 55 gallon freshwater fish tank. It will be filled with rocks, caves, and live plants. Please comment on the kinds and number of fish that I plan on raising:

6 Australian rainbows
6 Bosemani rainbows
9 Tiger barbs
5 Kuhlii loaches
5 small cory catfish
5 mystery snails

May I add more fish or should I start subtracting?

Thanks,

You might be ok with this, but you should build up to this slowly.

Second, I would caution about the tiger barbs. They are quite nippy... You have a good number listed here, but that doesn't always matter. Five banded barbs are a very similar looking fish, without the nippiness.

My Tiger Barbs have never bothered any of my fish. They are beautiful, active, entertaining and even school with my Tetras. :good:

I think it may be a bit overstocked tbh, when people start out, a rough guide would be 1 inch of adult fish per gallon.

6 Australian rainbows = 24" (4" adult? please advise)
6 Bosemani rainbows = 30" (5")
9 Tiger barbs = 36" (3")

Total = 70" for 55 Gallons

I haven't taken the other sotkcing into considerations as these are your main ones
