Getting a 21.1 gallon tank (lengthy). Currently have in this one, that will be put in the new tank
  • 3 Peppered Cory Cats - 7.5 inches
  • 2 Albino Cory Cats - 4 inches
  • 1 Betta - 2 inches
  • 2 Clown Plecos - 6 inches
Total of 19.5 inches (max sizes used), leaving me a couple of inches, and bearing in mind not all fish grow to max size.

Would it be okay getting some shoaling fish that swim mid/top of the tank? If so, recommend me some that are compatible (eg. tetras etc). Or will i be fully stocked. Or would it be okay to get a few more cory cats, i love them, probably get more peppers.

My fish are all a-okay atm, but upgrading now to save hassle in the future. Plus the fishies will thank me for it.

you've 1.6" free in your stocking, that's only really enough for 1 fish so nothing shoaling like tetras, also the betta drastically reduces your choices as they will bully most small colourful fish

if you want another cory i'd say that's your best bet really.

Cool sorted then. Im happy with what iv got, was just seeing if i could get some small little things :D

Bad news though, not getting tank til next week :( Wholesaler is out of them :(

you could get a neon dwarf rainbow fish perhaps... or mabye an african dwarf frog lol

You could add a Dwarf Gourami or a Honey Gourami which would make a lovely addition to this type of tank and only adds 2 inches to your stocking.

Dont want no frogs lol.

I quite like honey gourami, but wouldnt it not get on with my betta? Also dont they need to be in pairs?

I had a pair in with a Betta for a long time, even kept the 3 of them in a 10gal for a while, I had no ill effects on either fish. However I am not totally sure about other peoples experience with this. I wouldn't think a pair would take you dangerously overstoked so long as you have good filtration and the tank is a good few months old. I have had a single Honey Gourami now for a while after the sudden death of his 'mate' and he has been fine.

I would add a gourami, they are lovely!

it's generally agree that any gourami is a bad mix with a betta. they're both tempremental fish and while they could be fine for a while it would not take much to start off a war!
