Stocking My Tank... I Need Help!

lolz... you might :p I'm thinking about it but I'll see how 2 fair for the time being (a little strapped for cash and they go for 7.99-10.99 here *rolls eyes* I want to try keeping my angles (I currently have 4 of them) in the 55, was going to put in tomorrow before I get the cardinals Friday, but still not sure hmmm I just posted a new topic to find out, hopfully someone will respond on that one  :D
Have you got a Betta in that tank? If you have, I'm not sure how compatible he is with the other fish. :/

I've got a betta in my tank with my angles, clown loach, 5 corries, 2 yoyo botais and an algea eater... he's really non agressive... so he should be ok but he'll be staying in the other tank :)

Just wondering as I know that Bettas and Angels aren't a good combination. I suppose it depends on the personality of the fish but if you can try and get him a little tank to himself. My four have got their own seperate tanks and they look lovely. I don't want to sound as if I''m telling you what to do but I'd hate for anything to happen to the little guy.
Mind you they are an addictive little fish, My other half hates it when we go to the lfs, he has to drag me away from the Betta tanks!

lol no worries he's been in there for 2 months now and not dead yet :D plus I've got it heavily planted with one large Rock like scuplture in the middle, so lot's of hiding spots... It's going to be fun when I need to move the loaches and corries... catching them will sure be a ball *rolls eyes*

I've been told many times that Clown Loaches are too big for my 29G so I don't agree with that website as the people on here who told me are people with vast experience and highly respected in this community. They also told me that they should ideally be in a group of 4 or more and preferably 6.
The reason given for tank size was that they need space to roam as a group, much as you can't realy keep very active fish in a 10G because they will be from one end to another in a half second spurt.

I have been told to get something like the dwarf loach, again in a group as in relation to its size they will have the 'roaming' space.

Also is your 55G a long or tall tank? If it is tall this would be against clown loaches as the substrate area would be smaller, and if it was long it would be against angels due to the eight parameters.

What are your tank dimensions?

We're not attacking your knowledge or anything like that when we offer our opinions but yhe title of this thread is I Need Help, and therefore we are offering our own opinions which are not scientific in any way, and do not take into account that different people have different experiences.

i.e. A lot of people have problems with Bettas in community tank, especially with tetras or livebearers or Danios due to their nippiness, but I haven't experienced this with any of them. I must add 'as of yet' because you never know what the next day brings.

Good luck with your tank and hope all goes well.

well thanks for the vote of confidence, the tanks 55gallon LONG 4ft long, about 1ft wide and about 2ft tall (22" actually) 2" of river rock (AKA natural) gravel, densly planted, Stealth heater... I think 200-250watts... don't remember but it said on the box it's suitable for up to 60 gallons so :p, lets see... whisper 60 gallon air pump on it, 1 topfin 60 gallon filter and 1 aquaclear 50 gallon filter... As you can see it's well set up and it should be good to go soon and full of fish :D anyways, I still want to know about those cardinals mixing with angles, I'm writing myself a list right now and haven't figured out if I should add angles or not because they eat neons... But never heard about Cardinals... mabye I should just add my current angles and find out?? anyone had any experience with angles and cardinals in the same tank or know if the angles would eat the cardinals... I've got 3 types of fish not sure if I want yet... Only one type I'm going to choose...

Either:

3-5 Blue or Bulivian Rams
3-5 Anglefish
or 3-5 Silver Dollars...

Let's see those hands people :p give me your best opinion please!

Is tall enough for Angels then. Can't say about Angels and Tetras as I only have Tetras and not Angels, but I have heard that they are the darndest eating fish machines, and also that Tetras in return see Angelfish as target practice for nipping (which may be why they become food. lol)

Have a look at the dwarf Loaches. They are gorgeous with an almost stencil like design on their backs. You could get 5 or 6 of these instead of clowns and they still do the same job.

Not the best pic I'll look for another because the pic I saw made me want them straight away although I can't because I'm already overstocked

Gorgeous

I have done a large amount of research on Loaches and in my experience...

Clown Loaches grow to 12 inches so a solitary loach could go in a 29 gallon but due to clown loaches gregarious nature and are always swimming and quickly at that they should be in bigger tanks also clown loaches are FAR happier in large groups as they are schooling fish and if you are to keep clown loaches a group of 3 or more should be kept...

Ok...... well thats great... but my question is no longer about clown loaches, It's about weither I should get 3-5 blue or bulivian rams, 3-5 silve dollars or 3-5 Angles...

Silver dollars I believe are to large for that tank (never kept them however) I believe the bolivian rams are the best option for that size tank however it depends what else is in the tank... Once the Angels grow to full size the tetra's will most likely be snacks.

I was merely pointing that out about the clown loaches as it's for the best of the fish not picking at you or anything
