Stocking My New Tank - Discus?

Yeah that is helpful thanks. I think i'll let my angelfish grow abit, get a bristlenose catfish and let everthing settle and mature and just keep on reading topics about them and researching.

Another quick question. I'm wondering if my lighting is too bright. I'v got a 3ft 25w light in a silver hood. My angel fish dont seem to like it. They've stayed in one corner of the tank since i put them in. But when i switched the light off last night they immediatly swam to the top and began exploring the tank.

Then as soon as the light goes back on they'll retreat to the bottom corner again.

Is the light too bright? or is this just because they're new fish and haven't settled in yet?

could be either, give them a few days and see how it goes.

if you find it's a problem then you can in effect dim the lights without having to fork out for a new lighting unit just by adding some floating plants, shameless plug but my boyfriend sells riccia so if you do decide that's the route you want to take pm me :good:

Never heard of floating plants for tanks before to be honest. Is the idea to cover the whole surface of the tank with them, then when feeding fish pull the plants back? or are you supposed to just have a few bunches on the water?

I'd add a few bunches, rather than completely covering the surface. just don't get duckweed.... you'll have it forever.
I keep discus, and they are great fish. They do have specific needs, and it's safer to err on the side of caution with them; as said before, if you do your own research and think why advice is being given, then that generally helps in deciding if the advice is worth taking or not.
E.G is it one persons' experience (which could be down to other factors which you're not told) or is there a sensible reason given?

has this tank actually cycled yet? there seems no mention of that and its the most important thing regardless of species.re discus i think its to small a tank and uve underestimated the maintanince.good luck tho
