I currently have:

4 angels - quarter size - hoping to get a pair, the others will go back to the lfs before size gets to be an issue
14 corys
10 neons

I was thinking about adding:
10-15 harlequin rasboras
5-6 upside down catfish

The cories, neons and rasboras are all ver low waste producers so I can stretch the 1"/gallon rule with them. I've always liked upside down catfish and my lfs always has a good stock of them. I love harlequin rasboras and would love another school of small fish to add some interest to my school of neons.

Other suggestions or substitutions would be welcomed :)

I'm looking at this for a couple of weeks down the road. I'm having some trouble getting my angels settled in so I want to make sure they're good before I introduce anything else!

I think the bottom of your tank would be way overcrowded if you added the USDs. Adding rasporas should be ok but I would be wary of them and the tetra if you do end up with a pair of angels.

I guess I didn't think about the USDs as bottom dwellers since they hang out near the surface so much under cover. I have a few caves and other shelters they can hang out under that aren't right on the bottom. Thanks for pointing that out though!!

If the angels do pair up and spawn I'll do what I can to section them off from the rest of the tank, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, but I am keeping that in mind too :)

Are USDs classed as bottom dwellers then? Whenever i see them at the lfs they're always at mid-top but then I don't own any so I wouldn't really know...

Thanks, glad I checked here!! I'll just take them off my list :p

If you're looking for small, entertaining fish you could get a small school of dwarf golden barbs. Mine are an absolute delight, and I just bought 8 small harlequin ras's today, and both species are schooling together and chasing eash other thru the filter outflow and then back for more... they are great little fish! I've only had the barbs a week or so, but i was moving some plants around to create cover for the newbies today when I felt a little tickle - about 5 of the gold barbs were nibbling my fingers, as if to say 'Oi, wot's going on here then??' They are cool!

How about a school of Hatchetfish. They hang out in the mid-top and top of the aquarium and are quite interesting. Make jure there are no places they can jump out of though. :)

All catfish are bottom feeders.......if you're from the south east you know thats why you use "stinky" baits such as liver and blue gill heads to get that 30 lb. in the middle of the night LOL but anyway yes they are bottom feeders you will be too over crowded i would have said stop on the corys after 10 unless that is really what u wanted ..........

Yeah, nothing like fishing for those giant cats with the stinky bait   We've definitely done that a time or 2!

Yes, the 14 cories was intentional, I just love them. They produce very little waste and I don't have to worry about territorial aggression.

I will be passing on the USDs though.

Unfortunately, I have lost all 6 of my angels, so I'm basically starting from scratch with 14 cories and 8 neons. Yes, I've lost a couple of neons too :S I have no idea what's going on in my tank, so I'm taking a water sample into my lfs tomorrow for testing and a consultation. They're fantastic and I know they'll do right by me if they think the angels were sick when I got them (how could they not be, I lost all 6 in 8 days).

So, now I'm thinking of replenishing my diminishing neons and still going with the rasboras, or maybe emporer tetras. My lfs has some of those and I was surprised how nice they are.

Maybe some dwarf gouramis for a different look from the tetras.

I don't really care for hatchet fish that much.....

Yes, I will be waiting a couple of weeks before I do anything about adding more fish. I just want to have a game plan so I can research the fish and the lfs can get them ordered for me if they don't carry them normally.
