Can I keep 4 guppies, one platy, 2 cherry barbs and one male gourami in a 55 litre tank? thank you

4 gupps 2 platys, 4 cherry barbs and a male gourami is suitable in a 55 litre

Oh I disagree. First we need to know what species of gourami you're wanting. Second you should be aware that putting active species such as guppies and platies and cherry barbs in with sedate fish such as the gourami will not end well. You should also recognize that cherry barbs need a fairly large school to avoid fin nipping from other species though they are the least nippy of all the barb species. They also do best in a longer tank because of their high activity levels.

Aside from the issues Atticus quite correctly mentions, this is way too small a tank for all these.  A 55 litre is about 15 gallons [maybe others were thinking 55 gallons here?].

We also do not know the water parameters, and this is a mix of moderately hard water fish (livebearers) with soft to moderately hard water (barb and maybe gourami, not knowing the species), and depending upon the degree of hardness, some may not be at their best.  But there is insufficient space for all of them regardless.  And certainly the sedate gourami will not appreciate active barbs and livebearers.

Byron.
