Stocking Ideas?

Hey Guys!

Decided to give my Fluval Deep Duo 800 another go!
It's a 125 Liter Aquarium with Heater, Dual Lights, External Filter(Fluval 105)
Changed the gravel for Playsand and gone for Bogwood for decor
wanted to keep it natural!

The filter is already mature and the tank is currently holding 4 Flying Foxes(Algae Control)
Need some ideas for stocking the tank!

What sort of stuff do you like? Particular geographical areas? Anabantoids or Cichlids or Livebearers or what? Rare or easy to obtain?

Really got no idea hence the open question.

Only thing I have is flying foxes.

the 'flying foxes' aren't the best fish to plan around to be honest. They also need a 4ft tank.

this fish can become territorial as it grows, and should be house in a 4 foot tank, alone due to problems in the future with aggression.

there is also a Siamese algae eater looks like this

this fish should be keep in a group of a minimum of 5, to make the fish feel more secure and confidant. and again keeped in a tank of a minimum of 4 foot.

these two fish are very similar, but are different. the way i identify them is the flying fox has two black stripes and a slight orange stripe, where as the Siamese algae eater only has one black stripe and no orange.

can't I keep them til they get bigger, phoned around stores and no one will take them!
I have 4 of them at moment and they seem pretty active, they like the sand

In that case, you've got an excellent excuse to browse through all your local LFS shops this weekend! See what catches your eye, make a note of their names, and come back to the forum. You'll get all sorts of people advising you what will and won't work from those basic ideas.

Fishkeeping is so subjective, I personally like rarer livebearers, but they are often quite plain-coloured compared to cichlids.

As othes have already said, those "fying foxes" are in very rough terms, blander looking Redline Torpedo Barbs that are much more suitable for a tropical setup, providing you have at least a 5-foot tank for a group with lots of line of sight barriers. Realistically, it might be better to advertise the group on various fish sites, perhaps keeping one if you really want one and you can setup a 4-foot tank within the next few months (although speaking from experience, planning an upgrade while already having the fish is a dangerous game, as things can happen in life that throws the tank upgrade out of the window).

What are the dimensions of your 125l?

But as to other fish for a 125l, perhaps the best place to start here is tell us about the critical water stats of your planned water i.e. pH; kH; gH... We can then suggest fish from general areas that would thrive in such water and be suitable for a 125l tank.
