ive just upgrade to a rio 240. i have the following

1 x threadfin acara
2 x FM
1 x orange chromide
1 x rainbow
1x t-bar
5 x tiger barbs
1 x hoplo catfish

as you see ive got one of each apart from the firemouths. im wondering whether to maybe get rid of a couple and maybe start a group. if i get a group, would they want to take over the tank or what? i take it id have to have only one male. the other thing though is i dont want to have fish breeding every five minutes. does that rule a group out lol.
id also like some blue in the tank like a dempsey but thats obviously out the question. is there many other colourful american ciclids to choose from.
ive always had a soft spot for GTs aswell. this is another that would prob get to big :(. or would a female be ok?

Not sure what you mean by 'get rid of a couple'... However you could get a Blue Acara in that size tank. May be OK with the FM, but depends on whether you have a m & f. If you want something blue then the BA would be a good choice, and fit in fine with your size tank. Make sure you get a BA though and not a GT, they look much the same when tiny.
However if you mean get a group of FM then I'd say forget the BA as it would not stand a chance, particularly if the FM started breeding.

Rainbows do and look better in groups. What sort of Rainbow do you have?
