I am a tropical fish keeper virgin!! And i need some help with stocking idea's? Its 200 litres, 100cm long by 55cm wide and 50cm high. I have done a 4 week cycle with 8 Zebra Danios and everything seems great. I added 7 Cardinal Tetras and 4 Dwarf Suckermouth Catfish last weekend and they are all getting on fine. I am looking for ideas on how to stock the rest of the tank?

I was thinking of adding:-
Another 3 Cardinal Tetras taking them upto 10 in total
3 Dwarf Gouramis
2 Kribs
1 Bristlenose Plec
and another schooling fish of about 6-10

Any advice or opinons would be great!

Regards,
Darren

I wouldnt go for kribs because they might be a bit nippy with the ottos and tetra if they breed. If it was me instead of Gourami i would go for angelfish or festivum cichlids.
I would stick to South American fish and go for
20 Cardinal tetra
4 Ottos
2 BNs (1m 2f)
4 Angelfish or festivum cichlids
4 Biotodoma wavrini or Geophagus iporangensis or Keyhole cichlids
1 Whiptail or Banjo catfish
10 Marble Hatchets

Thanks for the reply.

Thats given me some things to think about!! Lol!!

I wanted a couple of centerpeice fish, like the kribs or gourami's. #33###, theres so much choice!!
I will defo increase the number of Cardinal Tetras i have and get another speices of schooling fish (10 ish) and get a BN Plec. Just cant decide what would work best as my show off fish.

The angelfish and festivum cichlids get 6" so would make nice centre piece fish and they use the middle and surface of the tank so would be a good alternative to the gourami. Like Kribs the Biotodoma wavrini or Geophagus iporangensis will stay nearer the bottom of the tank. Instead of another type of shoaling fish like tetra i would go for Marble hatchets that stay near the surface. Then you have wish in all different sections of the tank

For the bottom you would have
2 BNs
4 Ottos
4 Biotodoma wavrini or Geophagus iporangensis or Keyhole cichlids
1 Whiptail or Banjo catfish

for the middle
20 Cardinal tetra
4 Angelfish or Festivum cichlids

And for the surface
20 Marble hatchets

The Geophagus iporangensis would be my choose because there such stunning fish. They need to be in groups of 4 or more. With 4 theres a good chance you could get some fry. Theres some good info on them here
