Sorry of this is not in the right place.

I have recently cycled my Fluval tank, it is a planted tank with soil and sand substrate, with plenty of hiding places with the 3 pieces of wood. It is not heavily planted at the moment but when I get the new fish I'll buy more plants as well.

The tank has a
pH of 6
7°d GH
6°d KH
26°c

I currently have
6 kuhli loaches
6 Ramshorns

I'm thinking of adding
6-8 penguin or green tetras
And a centerpiece pair/ trio
Either
2 kribensis
Or
2 Blue Electric rams
Or
3 female Betta fish

Which would you recommend or any other suggestions welcome.
Thank you in advance.

The common or blue ram (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) in any of its varieties requires warmth; minimum temperature 80F/27C and preferably a degree or two above that. This is going to affect other possible tankmates as not all tropical fish can manage with this high a temperature long-term.

Can you identify the "green tetra" species?

They would be the neon green tetras.

Parachierodon simulans then. This species likes warmth, and is an ideal tankmate to the blue ram. You could really turn up the temperature for these two species. But it needs a much larger group; I would suggest 15-20 here. It is also very sensitive/delicate so water conditions have to be very stable. The GH might be considered a tad high for this species, but the pH at 6 (or if it even lowers) is good.

Hi,
I am new to the forum so excuse me if I am butting in. Please explain how to properly join this topic/thread and/or how to improve my Forum best practices. This is just the second online forum I have ever joined. So confusing so give a girl some guidance. Thanks in advance.

I just had an awful experience over green neon tetras. I thought tetras were a beginner fish.

I had a 10gal I was setting up just for plants...I keep cheap floaters...saves money on filter media replacements. Hornwort, Anachris. They are also pretty. They over grow in my tanks to where I had to do something! Also wanted to try my hand at planting plants proper, branch out if you will...anyway,

I also have a 20gal I've been keeping for a "must have" fish.

Innocent trip to LFS for an an Assasin Snail and I'm walking out with 16 Green Neon Tetras. Okay, I think, I have all I need to get the 20g up and going in two days. They will be fine in the cycled 10g with plants and snails 10g until then...they were so tiny.

They all died but 2. Nursing them still.
Something was amiss. Heartbroken at the loss; but moreso for the 2 remaining.

Kind of went on a tangent...the purpose of butting in was to find someone who has kept them and what their experience was like.

Regards,
~Vana

:hi: Welcome to TFF. I am not much when it comes to computer programs, etc, but I may be able to help some here. To post a new thread (asking a question or commenting on your own topic), select the relevant forum section on the TFF title page. When the forum page loads, at the top you will see a single blank rectangular box with "Thread Title" at the beginning. Type the title for the thread you want to initiate, and away you go.

If you want to post something in an existing thread, you scroll down to the bottom of the thread and type in the rectangle there. You did that here in this thread.

Posting a new to[pic in an older thread usually goes unnoticed, so it is better to start a new thread of your own. But as I am here, I will just say that the so-called green neon (aslso known as false neon), which is the species Parachierodon simulans, is a very sensitive fish. It must have very soft water on the acidic side. And it is susceptible to many issues that some fish might have less trouble dealing with. I have had a group of this species twice over the last 25 years.

Never trust the LFS, we all have made that mistake in the past, always do your research before buying fish. Sorry about your fish :(
