Stocking Idea?

I'm sure everyone understands what you are saying. But take into consideration there aren't a huge lot of people able to take a fish that size... Also, how're you going to transport a fish that size? Is it really fair to plan to put it through that much stress?
You'll get a frosty reception with comments like that as people are thinking of the fishes quality of life most of all.

Edit: Especially when there are so many other beautiful fish that would live quite comfortably in a tank that size. You have ALOT of stocking options open to you! :)
Also, I find I get quite attached to my fish (Particularly my lil ram, cichlids have so much personality!). Imagine if you got so attached you didn't want to rehome it, then you're forcing it to live in an unsuitable environtment.

We have a big bucket. :D

People are raising alot of valid points why you should abandon this idea. Stick with something you'll be able to keep for the rest of its life - fish are pets, not wall decoration. Especially cichlids - they have too much character to just get rid of. Which is why people have a hard time rehoming a fish when it gets too big - they stick their heads in the sand and ignore the issue because they don't want to part with it.

Be realistic and sensible, or expect people to be annoyed that you come on here admitting you don't know the answers, then ignoring them when they're put in front of you because they don't suit you.

If you aren't going to keep him that long then what is the point of getting him in the first place. You are going to be putting the poor thing through stress for no apparent reason. Like many have said already, get something that will be comfortable in the tank you already have. When you do decide to upgrade to a bigger tank then you will have less problems in the long run.

My dad say that he will get me a bigger tank over the summer!

Ah, you're a child. Which means your income is reliant upon others. So you don't actually have any say on the size of tank you get, you can only ask and hope you'll be listened to.

Listen to us. Summers only a few months away, hang fire until you get a tank thats going to be big enough for him.

I hope your Dad's reading this and is willing to see sense.

Yeah i am a teenager one more year of school. :yahoo:

There are a lot of people on this site that know what they are talking about. Its good to take in what they say. Its better to listen now than making a bad decision and regretting it. Information is a wonderful thing and you will learn a lot from the people here. Only if you are prepared to listen. Its good that you have taken an intrest in fishkeeping, i hope it lasts. Good luck with your new tank.
