Ok so i made a bet with my dad that if i got all A's on my first semester report card that he would buy me a 100 gallon tank. well i plan on winning that bet since im very smart and when i actually do homework i get 95-100's. So when i get my 100 im going to switch all my fish from my 55 to the 100.

So im gonna have an empty 55 gallon tank sitting around. Since the tank i have now is fairly aggressive i was thinking of making it a community tank. But then i was thinking how cool it would be to have a big Wolf fish in there or something like that. I need a vote on here.

Choice #1
- 5 angel fish
- 6 green cories
-9 panda cories

Choice # 2
- Wolf fish (if suitable) This one would be all by itself.
OR
-Pike cichlid ( if suitable). with some other smaller fish.
OR
Polypterus Senegal, Delhizi, and palmas if i can find one. These will also have some other topdwelling fish

any help would be appreciated as well as comments on those setups.

Just personal preference, but I'd personally go for more than just one or two fish in a tank. *shrugs*

unless its the wolf fish there will be more than 1 or 2 fish. as far as im aware they cant be kept with any other smaller fish. the Pike i believe can be kept with other fish and i know the poypteruses will be fine with top dwellers

Yes, but the way you stated it, it seems as though you will keep either a single wolf, single pike, or only polypterus 1, 2, or 3.

Might just have been the way I read it, though. *shrugs*

true. I'll reword it to avoid confusion

i dont know what to vote on. i like my 55 gallon tank, it seems a little overstocked if the fish are full grown. but at their size its like empty. as for you what kind of fish do you find interesting i'll help you to the best of my ability. i would definately not choose option 1 as i dont like angels and it would be a opretty boring tank having jsut angels and cories. you should take a look at the oddball section of this forum and see what you like. also hybrids are pretty cool. if you tell me what you're interested in i can see if it'll work out for ya. i like senegal bichirs or Polypterus Senegal as you have it written. these get to like 10" in captivity. knife fish are also nioce if you're into that.

you could also venture out and try a brackish tank as they are pretty cool or go marine or something. do you want to do strictly FW? liek i said the oddballs and hybrids or cichlids could be very fun. thats jsut my opinion though.

hmm. brackish does sound like fun. In there right now i have some SA cichs ( severum, festivum, rainbow), some catfish ( lima shovelnose, 4 pictus), and a few other odds and ends ( senegal bichir, Gold gourami, rtbs). so i want something a little different than that. I want either a nice community with a natural environment or a completely unusual fish. Knife fish do seem very interesting. Ive seen brown african knives that i hear only grow to around 9". It seems like it would make a good tankmate for some interesting bottomdwellers.

yea brown african knife fish are really nice. i would recommend maybe getting one. or even glass knife fish if you could find them. i once sawsome and regret not picking one up. the african brown gets ot like 8-9" while the glass looks cool and get to 7". maybe get a schoal of glass catfish? i once had a setup for a stocking question for myself lets see if i can find it and leve the link to try and help i had a nice set up going but never completed it, instead i went to oddballs and hybrids and cichlids lol. i jsut got a black ghost kniffish myself :)

ok i found the link

hope this helps you some. have any more questions feel free to ask. or even some ideas as i can help as much as possible. i love stocking questions, jsut search for posts by me (Nevergone815) and "stocking" as a keyword and search for exact name posts and you will see that i have done this a few times lol. hey you might like some of the ones i've helped with and even get some good advice from what peopel told me :)

i really hop i can help you as i know the feeling of not knowing what to do because you have so many ideas and you want to do them all but you can't... man i hate that feeling... well again i hope i can help you out further.

yeah i see glass cats all the time. i believe they are the smaller variety though. The african brown knife looks like it would go great with bichirs or one of the medium sized crenichla (sp?) species. or possibly both.

someone on this thread has a decent idea for stocking

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=158142&hl=

have you thought of doing peacock eel, they go well with senegal bichirs and brown african knife fish.

someone else has put up a thread i nthe oddball section about stockign a 55 gal so please take a look

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=155431

peopel gave them some pretty good advice. i'm not to kean on the Leopard Ctenopoma (its a climbing perch i beleive) and i never was to in awe over them.

as for the crenichla species i don't know them. what are they? any common names? that might help me to recognize it lol.

i hope those links help you in any way :)

hmm. i was going on mostly what i can find around here. the ctenepoma would be hard to find. I can find knife fish if needed. the crenichla is a pike cichlid. Theyre pretty interesting. right now im leaning towards the community tank just because of the ease of being able to find stuff. I can find some bichirs though. Im so torn right now.

Sand/aquatic soil/some sprinkles of large gravel mix as the substrate. Loads of java moss, elodea and windelov java fern(keeping it simple with easy plants). A few small pieces of bogwood scattered on the ground and some tall stones that reach the half way up to the top of the tank.

I'd have one 200 watt heater set to 25 degrees celcius for the day(turns off at night using a timer) and one set to 22 degrees celcius for the night also using a simple plug timer(simulates day/night cycle). I would have a regular tropical T8 tube for the day and a moonlight for the night. Also two fluval 4 plus internal filters and a small airstone at the back(just because i can).

Now stocking-a shoal of 6 of whatever corydoras take my fancy at the lfs, a couple of mosquito fish, 6 rosy red minnows and a pair of Kribensis. A bit strange i know but i'd love it. Also i would add around 10 amano shrimp, an apple snail and of coarse i would put any triops that were over 1.5 inches in there(i would have a small 3gal with an airstone and 25 watt heater set to 23 degrees celcius for raising them up to that point).

Thats the third time i have posted that  . I really want to do it :( .

Lol, not allowed another tank and when i get my 67 gal i need to put my existing fish in there. So i'm just gonna suggest it to others and get them to post pictures  . I probably will do it eventually, but not for a VERY long time.
