Turns out that the fish I'd been checking out might have been listed wrong, and are actually Laetacara curviceps, not Laetacara dorsigerus, although from what I've found there isn't a whole lot of difference .

Anyhoo, so now that I've decided on getting a pair, I need to figure out the rest of the tank. As poor Wills already knows...

Tank is 2'h x 2'l x 1'd. Current stock is BN, one female guppy, one blue apple snail.
Fake plants, and one very large (almost 2 foot long) piece of driftwood with sand substrate.

Wanting to get:
The curviceps of course (m/f)
Some sort of cory
Some sort of mid-level schooling fish (not a huge school, thinking about 7-8, just to keep the flags from hiding)
Maybe an angel?
Possibly some more guppies and ghost shrimp.

I don't mind if some of the guppies and/or shrimp become food.

I like the harlequin rasboras, maybe rummy's, just want somnething closer to the mid/top level (would like hatchets but not sure if there is enough room for me to do a water change without them all flying out the top).

If I get corys would the flags be okay with them while breeding? And what are the smaller cories that aren't dwarves?

Am I being silly and trying to have too many fish? If (and hopefully when) the curv. breed I have a store that will take them, likewise if I get too many guppies.

I would avoid the angels, go for the harliequins as they will swim higher than tetras but not as high as hatchets... I think panda cories stay small for cories so could be an option? If you want guppies I dont see a problem tbh and the shrimp are probs going to be a bit hit and miss... not sure if they would be snacks or not might depend on the fish.

Lol, as it turns out I might be getting a different tank, still a thirty from the measurements I got, but it's longer and shorter than what I have now. So I think I'll wait till I get it and set it up before getting the flags, don't want to put them through more than they need to. May change my stocking ideas about a bit, having more swimming room length-wise, and seeing what kind of lighting and filter it has.

Hi,

I saw some vensuelan bronze cories the other day and they looked gorgeous, bit samller than standard bronze cory with a red tint to the head. Think they would work okay with curviceps as I have small pandas, skunk and bronze cories with mine. I also have keyholes with mine as well as a festivum. The curvicep actually chases the festivum when he becomes too boisterous with the keyholes, quite funny to watch. I did have ghost shrimp but they have "dissapeared" not sure who is the culprit though TBH. I do have some larger african filter shrimp in there but they need a mature and established tank to be housed in. I am not a massive guppy fan so I would personally find another small shoaling fish like a medium sized tetra or something that would work well with the rest of your stock.
