I have a 20 (US) gallon High tank. It's heavily planted, over filtered, and lightly overstocked (about 1", if that makes any difference to you), fully cycled, and the tank itself is about 4 months old, one of the filters is 2 months old, and the other one is about 8 months old.
I have 6 Harlequin Rasboras, 3 White Cloud Mountain Minnows, 3 Schwartzi Cories, 1 Female Betta Splendens, and 1 Apple Snail.
And just for some mathmatical help:
WCMM 3x 1.5 = 4.5
Harelequin R 6x 1.5 = 9
Scwhartzi 3x 1.33 = 3.99
Betta 1x 2 = 2
Apple 1 = 2
21.49 total
I'm putting some thought into rehoming my female betta. I'd want to add another 'show fish' to the mix... I suspect that a Gourami would fit the bill, but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the matter.
I'll probably be adding another two Schwartzi cories in the next 2 weeks or so, which would add another 2.66" (again, if that number means anything to you), to the mix.
However, I stress again: It's over filtered (one Aquaclear 20, one Penguin Bio-wheel 125, and one Hydro II sponge filter), heavily planted (with at least two 'fast growing' plants), and maintained weekly.
I suspect that a Dwarf Gourami is pretty much my only choice, if I decide to go through with it, but since I consider myself under-educated where other fish species are concerned, I'd be into hearing what you've got to say.
