Hi Everyone

I have a Juwel 180 Vision which I have just changed to a low tech planted tank. I am looking to create a community of small shoaling fish and currently stock -

1 Dwarf Neon Rainbow fish - the old man of the tank
20 Microdevario Kubotai
5 Amano Shrimps
6 Red Cherry Shrimps

I going to be adding in the future - 12 - 15 pseudomugil gertrudae (Spotted Blue-eye) and 6 corys - undecided yet.

I would also like to add in one or two larger fish but am not really sure what to put in. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Why not a few more of the rainbows to give the old man some mates?

As I had a major catastrophe which pretty much wiped out my whole stock apart from the old man and the shrimps I decided to have a complete change. It was not a disease issue but a combination of bad circumstances. It has taken me a long time to start to restock as I changed the substrate to try and grow plants instead of just killing Java Fern!

I was thinking of a pair of Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlid's but I am concerned they will eat the shrimp. There are lots of plants and hiding places for them . . .
I also looked at dwarf gourami's but really don't want to deal with dgs so I a definite no, no matter how pretty.

If I did restock would he be aggressive to the new additions? He is fully grown and they are so small in the shop!

Thank you

He should be ok, though would advise getting either just females or one male and three  to four females to be safe :)

Hmmm... the cockatoo will definitely go for shrimp, small ones definitely. Depends how stupid the cichlid is ;) had one at work that I had to catch and use tweezers to remove shrimp 5 times in 3 weeks :/ as he got them jammed in his big gob. Couldn't help the shrimp as they move from tank to tank.

I'm trying to think of low dwelling pairs that wont eat shrimp but failing...

As for gouramis, how about a few Yellow Honey Gouramis? They wont touch shrimp, are docile as anything and would be a lovely splash of colour! (2 m and 2f would be great!)

I love my shrimps, they are so entertaining.  I will definitely look into the Yellow Honey Gouramis as I doubt I will be lucky enough to get a couple of cichlids stupid enough not view them as food

I totally understand why one tank is not enough! Maybe I will start up a smaller tank just for the shrimps LOL
