I keep playing with ideas for stocking my tank, which is still cycling (about 2 weeks so far, just waiting for high nitrites to plummet).

I originally thought I'd get some cories for the bottom, but now I'm not so sure. My gravel, although small, is actually quite rough so I'd be a bit worried they might damage their barbels.

I ruled out a BN catfish as I don't fancy my plants being bulldozed, and I'm not sure I have enough space for one to be honest, they're larger than the other fish I've been thinking of.

So how does this sound? :

6 honey gourami (2m 4f) - top/middle areas
6 black neon tetra - all areas
6 cherry barb - bottom/all areas
6 amano shrimp - cleaning squad!

I understand they're all peaceful community fish, I just wanted to check if they'd all be happy together.
Also do the numbers sound ok?

yep, sounds like your all sorted, with a good combination of fish

It sounds like it's going to be a pretty tank. You could add some tetras. I love gouramis. Cherry barbs can be slightly aggressive. So they should be kept in a school.

Thanks both of you for your help.
Now it's just a waiting game for the cycling to finish....

If you are going to keep two male honey goramis in the same tank, I would advise you to make a special effort to break up the lines of sight, to reduce agression between them. This basicaly means placing ornaments, so that it is not possible to see strait through the tank in any direction, hence giving a bullied fish somewhere to run, and aid in setting up individual teritories :good:

All good mixes though, is you take the above into consideration :good:

All the best

Thanks Rabbut, I appreciate the advice :good:

I did wonder about having more than one male honey in there, but I gather they're less likely to argue than for example dwarf gourami males, so I thought it might work in a group with a few girlies.

I plan to put a few more ornaments/bogwood in the tank as it still looks a bit "new" if you know what I mean, so I hope that will create a few more hiding places.

Can't wait to post a picture once I have the fish!
