Hello,

I have recently purchased a 100 litre fish tank with filtration and thermostat. I have started the cycle process and been looking around quite alot for different fish available to me. I was hoping for some advise on stocking this tank.

My end goal is to keep 8 Cardinal Tetra, male and female Gourami, 5 barbs.

Is this a viable option of fish to live happily together? Am I over crowding the tank?

My filter does 400 Litres per hour and I intend to do regular water changes.

I would appreciate any help on the matter as I only want my fish to be happy.

Many thanks in advance.

What kind of gourami were you think of? Some of them get a bit too big for a 100l.

And what kind of barbs? Some of them (tiger barbs especially) can be very nippy to tankmates, while others (cherry barbs, for instance) are peaceful and make very good community tank fish.

Cherry Barbs would be very nice. I would appreciate being pointed in the right for the gourami. I just want the most colourful friendly gourami possible for the rest of the fish.

Thanks for the help.

Dwarf gourami are probably the prettiest, but they can suffer from a thing called 'dwarf gourami disease', which is incurable :( Thick lipped are almost as colourful and peaceful; sparkling gouramis are lovely and stay small, as do honey gouramis.

Steer clear of three spot/opaline/gold gouramis, as they can be very aggressive, IME.

Pearl gourmais are lovely, but they do get quite big (5"/12cms). What are the dimensions of your tank?

The tank size is 80cm in length, 40 cm in depth and 35 cm in width. The Dwarf Gouramis look very nice. How would cardinal tetra get along with dwarf gouramis and cherry barbs please?

Thanks.

Yes, that's too small for pearls, IMO.

Cardinals, dwarf gouramis and cherry barbs should all get along :)

That's great!

Many thanks for the help. I'll let you know how it works out once my tank is ready to take fishies :)
