Stocking A Three Foot Tank

hi i just bought another three foot tank, and i was wondering if anyone had any ideas on stocking.
so far ive got 4 black widow tetras 6 red eye tetras, 3 zebra danios and 1 6" featherfin cattie i know it sounds crazy ive just got no where else to put him. i dont really want live bearers. i was thinking of some bleeding heart tetras?

I think the featherfin might outgrow the tank unfortunately but you seem aware of it so if you get an option to sort out a better home for it go for it!

As far as the tetra stocking goes, I would up your existing schools before adding an other one. So like up your black widows to 6 and same for the danio I think then you could probably add in the bleeding hearts when the featherfin is moved on. I think if it was a less active catfish I would say it will be okay at that size in there but they really are incredibly active in the night mine used to swim upside down in circles under surface plants right around my tank I put a blue light looking up at the surface when I had a tank in my room and it was fantastic to watch.

ah... that is normal for featherfins to swim up side down, he does it quite regulary, the other fish just say out of its way and it doesnt seem to even notice them, how many bleeding hearts can i put in? i was thinking of a red finned shark and a couple of bristle nose catties also just to occupy the bottom of the tank i like flying foxes too?

Whats the capacity of the tank? I think if your keeping the featherfin in there I wouldnt add any other big fish like the red tail etc as the featherfin can hit 9 inches but as with all synos there are tons and tons of hybrids around so its really hard to gauge just how big they are going to get.

When you said red finned shark do you mean the red tailed shark or the rainbow shark? The red tail just has a red tail where as the red finned/rainbow has red on all fins and are a bit more peaceful and smaller.

So taking it as a standard 3ft of around 30 gallons you could consider doing something like.

1 Featherfin or 1 Red finned shark
6 Red Eye Tetras
6 Black Widow Tetras
6 Bleeding Heart Tetras
(2 Bristlenose) - only with the red finned shark though, but if your thinking of plecs have you considered any of the other small plecs? Like king tiger plec etc?

i worked it out to be 40 gallons, i was thinking about the labeo erythrurus red finned shark i think they get about 5" and hang around the bottom cleaning up the left over food that hits the bottom. do you know what L number the king tiger is i can do a bit of reseach in my catfish book then. are they very expencive?

i was kinda looking for suckers starlight plecs looks pretty good though. i once bought one as a peppermint plec found out later it was a starlight.

I think to get plecs you need to get your featherfin out first. The featherfin can get so big that it becomes an anomaly on the stock list. But Ill stop going on about it,I know you know. But just take the following as being a tank without the featherfin.

Your tank must be a 40 gal breeder tank which is a very nice tank for a small space lots of room and a good footprint.

King tigers I believe are L66 - http/www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/numbers.php?mode=l&thumbs=16&start=64&genus_id=0 - good info on them but you also have the similar L333. Both are pretty expensive though not much that are similar to them for less money either unfortunately. Starlight plecs would be fine as well

And also that shark is the one I was on about just make sure all its fins are red when you get it and your sorted.
