hi, was just wondering if anybody as any recommendations on which fish to keep now that ive grown bored of my community tank, well i wouldnt say ive grown bored, its just the thought of having a species tank of some sort greatly excites me, and would give me the same satisfaction i once had which ive seemed to have now lost. my tank dimmensions are 48"x 15"x 12" any ideas wood be champion as im in the process of emptying my tank right now, thanks

A shoal of Serpae Tetra would look cool... a dark substrate/tank would really show them off..

How about alot of corys and thats it? LOL

Just joking. What about 6-8 long finned black widow tetras?

How about a shoal of angels. That would look brilliant! Its what I've always wanted.

Acctually, tanks too small. How about a lovely shoal of tiger barbs. About 12 or something. All different colours. It really looks brilliant. Ive got a couple...well 30 :D

They can't put angels in it because the tank has to be at least 18 inches tall because of how tall and big they get. Also when they get bigger and 2 of them form a pair (become boyfriend and girlfriend) they will have to return/rehome the other angels because once they pair almost all of the time the pair won't tolerate other angels in the tank.

Well I did correct myself in my reply... :sly:

And anyway, thought Angelfish lived in shoals any how?

do a silver dollar shoal with tannins and bog wood with a low lit light

Today I saw some great fish called "lampeyes". Check those out for a planted species tank! Other species I would go for would be puffers, mogurnda sp., shelldwelling cichlids, etc. Lots of scope for oddballs in a species tank.

Sorry I had already wrote that before you changed it.

it's accully recommed that for angels

the tank is at least 24'' high

actually its 18" because the people in the new world cichlids section said 18".

What's so funny about that, Durbkat? :dunno:

I have, among other cory tanks, 3 55 gallon tanks that are cory communities. They are great species tanks and with a big tank, several species of corys can be kept together. This gives you some variety with colors and patterns, but they are all very similar and all get along and interact with each other.

If you think they do nothing but sit on the bottom, think again. :D

This tank has a nice school of orange lazers:
