My husband and I have kept fish off and on for years but never anything fancy or larger than a 20gal tank. About 2-3 years ago, we bought one of those big deluxe Aquaculture kits from Wal-Mart. At the time, we both thought we were buying a 55gal. I'm still convinced we did but the tank in the box may have been incorrect and we never realized it. Anyway, your website calculator says we have something along the lines of a 33gal. I can't even find the measurements on a list of standard tank sizes.

It's 40in x 10in x 19in (little taller but I only measured to the bottom of the top lip since we never fill past that anyway).

So we have a bizarre sized tank with a really big filter (Penguin 350 since we thought we had a 55gal) on it. We switched from rock to sand, 4 amazon sword plants, and some mild looking decorations. Oh and there's a tiny pleco in there as well.

I'm glad I found this site today because we probably would have stocked thinking we had a 55gal and we probably would have selected fish not suited to the flow of the water we have.

So, what can you guys recommend? We have easy access to a PetSmart and a Petco. There is an actual fish store in the area but I'm leery about driving 45min+ with fish in the car.

Here's a picture of the tank with our little pleco hanging off the side on the right.

Fish will be fine for 45 mins in the car...they get imported and exported all around the world. A 45 minute car journey would be fine. If your in doubt, put the bags inside a poly box.

It is taller so you could do a school of cory catfish (6) for the bottom, a pair of bolivian rams or apistogramma dwarf cichlids, one angel fish and a school of medium sized tetras or rasbora. Just and idea.
