Stocking A 28 Litre Tank Around A Dwarf Frog

Evening all! I have just won a 28l tank on good old fleabay which will house my single African Dwarf frog who is currently in my 120l. As he is the main occupant I don't want any bottom feeders as they will eat his food before he can get to it so can't have shrimp/snails. It's far too small for the majority of fish and all I can think of to join him is a Betta but I'm not sure how a Betta would be with him darting up for air as he tends to just bash through whatever is above him! Is there anything that could join him in a wee tank like this, bearing in mind that according to a certain stocking calculator he is 45% of the stock on his own!

Anyone up for the challenge??

In my personal opinion, these frogs are best kept in species only tanks. When kept with fish they have to be hand or spot fed to ensure they are getting enough food - they hunt by scent, not sight, so the fish inevitably find the food first.

Also, be wary of keeping the frog with a betta. In the stores, bettas are often juveniles, and they can live with the frog sometimes months without incident - upon reaching maturing they can sometimes becoming intolerable of the frog, often killing it over night or biting off fingers or eyes.

28 liters is about 7.5 US gallons - you could have a nice trio of ADF in there with out issues.

The only reason I thought of a Betta was that they stay near the top so figured they'd leave the food on the bottom. Scrap the Betta idea then, they're not my favourite fish anyway! The thing is, I am not getting more frogs as this one wasn't bought by me, it came with a community tank I bought a few years ago and there don't seem to be any places around here that sell them anyway. So to sum up, any fish or other critters in there would get to the food befopre the frog? I'm happy to have a froggy only tank, it's my husband who'll grizzle like a 4 year old!

you could keep frogs with fish
i am hoping to get a few of them soon for my community tank.
they need to be peaceful fish and to get them to eat just use a turkey baster and squirt the food to them so they will eat some.

Well, I've been having a think today and after searching through the Tropical Fish Finder have located somewhere only an hour away that sells ADFs. Therefore I am abandoning the idea of a fishy companion in favour of a couple of froggy friends. I have some sand left over for the substrate which means I'll remove the under gravel filter that comes with it in favour of a small internal I've got lying around. Am I right in thinking that if I cover the intake grille with tights it should be safe enough not to suck their legs in? I've got a couple of mid-sized Java Ferns spare which I was going to put in too attached to wood that will be angled against the tank wall to give them a 'mezzanine' level if they're feeling lazy. Is there anything I'm missing/forgetting? Feel free to move this to the Amphibian/reptile section ifit's appropriate!
