Hi, my freind was wonder what he could stock his new 125g tank with.
he was thinking somthing along the lines of this:

7-10 african cichlids
3-4 angel fish
3-4 bala sharks
4 bolivian rams
1-2 pleco's (he has not decide on what kind yet)
1-2 (pimelodus) pictus cats
and a bunch of corydora's like 10 or 12

my freind does not have a computer so this is why he is asking me to ask these questions
any help will be great and i will make sure my freind gets what you guys say!

With the exception of the african cichlids, I'd say it was ok :) The balas may get too big though - depends on the dimensions of the tank?

African cichlids need a high ph, the rams, angels, and plecs need a lower ph - so they're not compatable. Maybe a couple of rainbow cichlids, or keyhold cichlids would be a more suitable alternative to the africans? Or a nice shoal of larger tetras (eg. congos or rummynoses?). Many african cichlids are also known to be highly aggressive, so the other fish would probably be beaten up a lot too - if not, depending on the type of cichlid, killed.

ok so the bala's and cichlids are out.

but the others are still in. He was wondering if their were any larger fish he could put in.

i was thinking maybe a firemouth but then again it is another form of a cichlid so that might be out, maybe a few gouramis like
5-7? and a large school of like other nonagressive fish? maybe livebarers like swordtails and mollies?

any ideas would be apreasiated and welcome!

Unless u want only africans no africans then... they'll kill off most of your list, if not all of it... What about a discus and angle tank??

You have to be somewhat careful with what you put with Angelfish as they are somewhat delicate and definitely any fin nippers must be avoided. I don't think I would put a firemouth in with them. Gouramis are an option as are many tetras and rasboras. Cardinal tetras or rummynose tetras are nice as are Harlequin rasboras. A school of corys would be nice in that tank and would help keep your substrate clean of any left over food. Mollies prefer brackish water or higher Ph so I would avoid them but swordtails would work. If you wanted to go the cichlid route go for dwarf cichlids from south america like rams or something (can't help too much because I am not too familiar with cichlids).

You could put balas in your 125g (assuming it is 72" long) though they probably would be too boisterous for the Angelfish so I would go with one or the other as your main fish.

3-4 angel fish
4 bolivian rams: great.
1 pleco would be better than 2, don't get a common plec, they will bust any tank. Smaller species are more interesting anyway.
3 or 4 (pimelodus) pictus cats would work better.
10 corys would be fine.

these from your list are ok.
I'd add a shoal of 10 tetras to give some contrast. Nothing so small that the pictus cats would eat. Perhaps something like Black Phantoms, Diamond tetras, or Emperor tetras. All beatiful, and I think would compliment your friend's tank.
For a great look, make sure it's very heavily planted, preferably with good lighting and CO2, and maybe some driftwood?

i think the tank is 72"(i cant remember i will ask tonight) long with flouresint lighting with heavy planting and rocks with some type of wood but i think the tank is almost finished cycling for i think about 5 or 6 months now as he says ( i have not seen the tank yet this is what he is telling me) if i could get pictures of some peoples 120 or 125 gallon tank this would help alot he wants to see pictures to get ideas

so far thanks for the help
