Stock List....

I have honey gouramis and they are really peaceful and playful with eachover. But there is a thread on the gouramis section about red honey gouramis being quite aggressive. so make sure they are yellow ones. Well thats my advise anyway. I also have 2 thick lipped and they are peaceful. Can get quite big whereas honey are quite smalll. If you live in england pick up a copy of this months practical fishkeeping magazine. They have stocking ideas for gouramis.

I'd avoid chocolate gouramis, as mentioned they'll need a mature tank and perfect water conditions.
I'd say thick lipped gourami (colisa labiosa) are the best beginner gourami, they get from 3-3 and a half inch each. But you wouldn't need to worry about male to female ratio as they are, typically, completely peaceful. You could fit 3 in at a similar stocking level as your earlier plan.
They are big eaters though so you have to keep an eye on your other fish and ensure they get their fair share...

I like the look of Blue Gouramis, What are they like? Grow very big?

So Gouramis and certain Cichlids can go together?

Also thinking about couple of Zebra Danios?

So what do you lot think of having ?

3 x Gouramis

2 x Cichlids

5 x Female Betta

I'm i asking for trouble?

what sort of gourami's and what sort of cichlids?

smallest gourami's stay around 1" (sparkling gouramis) the biggest around 24" (giant gouramis)... it makes a lot of difference which ones you get.

again with cichlids, some dwarf cichlids, apistogrammas stay at maybe 2/3" but you can go right up to oscars and bigger that can get to 16"

you really need to be more specific with which species you are looking at or we can't help you.
