...so after lots of options and finding out my tank can have 13inches of fish MAX, iv decided on either

- 1 betta = 3inches
- 3 shcwartz corys = 6inches
- total = 9 inches

or :p

- 1 Honey gourami = 2inches
- 6 neons = 6inches
- 2 schwartz corys = 4inches
- total = 12inches

so VOTE and tell me which one would be best veiwing wise and just generally better! :D Thanks! :good:

edit: i probably most likely get a betta, but just want peoples veiws and opinions!!!

How many gallons is your tank? And what are the dimensions? If this is the 6 gallon in your signature, I wouldn't go for Cories at all. I find Cories are very active fish, and prefer room to swim and do their thing. Neons would also like more room. I'd just stick to the Betta, and possibly an ADF, Pygmy Cories, or Otos.

Edit: By the way, you won't just want to go by the inches of fish you can keep. That's a guideline. You have to include other things, like swimming space, how much waste the fish produces, the type of water/tank conditions you have, etc.

o ok, its 6 uk gallons but the 2 corys i have at the mo are perfectly fine, they are constanly searching for food and sitting in there terracotta pots after a swim in the current...there loving it! :pepsi:

Tetras and betta?!!! Yopull end up with a betta with no fins because of the constant nipping from the tetras!

I looked at this tank, and there is hardly any swimming space. its too tall and not wide enoug hunfortunately :(

Go for the betta!

You must consider swimming space and not just tank size.

Rubbish!!! i have 20+ Tetras in with 1 male and 2 female bettas, even the fully grown angel doesnt eat the tetras.

Granted my tank is quite a bit bigger but atm it's seriously overstocked, hence why i'm buying another tank

keeping male and female bettas in a tank together is a bad idea aswell they will kill each other.

Well you keep male and female bettas together... are you telling me that, thats the right thing too do?

Just because your fish dont nip, doesnt mean others' wont

what do you think they do in the wild? my bettas have been in the same tank (Rekord 120) for over 8months now, no fighting, no death, infact just lots of spawning -_-

sometimes i think people on these forums just jump on bandwagons, just coz someone may have had trouble with keeping males and females together doesnt mean they are all like it. Fish tend to have there own personalitys.

:/

in a resonable sized tank....yep never had a problem, oh well guess i've started something here!!

anyway never had a problem, obviously i wouldnt have them in a small tank together!!

The wild is much different too tanks.

Please dont advise people from just your experience, your experience is not far down the line enough. I have read in many places that most tetras will nip bettas fins as they are long.

I dont know bout cardinals, but i know that angels eat neons.

sorry tetra-man2, ignore my post as it has sparked some upset

Qays: your right i have only been keeping fish for 16 years, i'll keep MY experiences to myself. And Qays, you may have read that in books but have you tried it? seems not. I have and havent experienced ANY problems. but to be on the safe side Tetra-Man sould perhaps play it safe and not have them, i get the impression he'd sooner have just the betta anyway ;)

My Angel doesnt eat cardianls, i don't keep neons as i find they never live long in comparison to the cardinals (which are better looking anyway). my angel on the other hand will try to kill any other angel you introduce (even if it's bigger) hence why i have 2 tanks and now about to be 3.

Sorry, didnt mean to sound mean

I have heard angels eat neons, never heard that they eat cardinals, cardinals are bigger than neons.

Well, stay on the safe side with a betta and tetras.

neons are natural food for angles in the wild, and Qays your right even fish like platys guppys and fish that are not fin nippers sometimes even they are tempted by the long finnage of the betta, so i wouldnt risk it!
but since pgtips has 16 years experience i can belive that his/her tetras dont nip..but i cant afford to risk it!
:p thnaks for all replys..not many votes though!

oh and i'm a HIM lol, and no...my cardinals don't nip, perhaps i'm lucky. You could always get a bigger tank? ;)

Sorry for questionning your experience too. I think cardinals behaviour may be different too neons' behavour...?
