Thank you everyone I will go with a dumbo ear male betta and 6 cories if he will allow it. With some Anubis’s nana a crypt and some sort you of floater for the betta to rest in.

I would suggest you get the betta first. Or put a small mirror up to the tank at your LFS. If he flares at it very quickly and aggressively, then he probably won’t be a good betta for a community tank.

As I said, most dumbo ears are very mellow.

My betta likes to rest in my broad leaved Anacharis. (That’s a good betta plant.

By mellow do you mean not active or not aggressive? And I will try to get some anacharis

I mean not aggressive. You can tell pretty easily if a betta is aggressive or not, by looking for any flaring. They will usually do this if another betta is next to them, or if they see their reflection. (This is only the case in aggressive betas. If they don't do this, you're good)

Non-aggressive bettas will still flare at their refection. I once had a betta which was very laid back. I moved some floating plants into his tank from my main tank and it had rice fish eggs on it. Several days later I spotted tiny fry swimming in the betta's tank. I left them there till they were big enough not to be eaten by the fish in the main tank and the betta took no notice of them.
But he flared as his reflection.

I suggest we pin down the GH before deciding on fish or frogs. Kribensis will not work in this tank due to size. Cories are questionable, again size, though the pygmy cory wold work (depending upon the water parameters) but not with a male Betta. Bettas are not community fish. While it is certainly true that some individual Betta males might "allow" other fish like cories, they also might not, or down the road after a few weeks decide enough is enough. Too many members have reported this to not consider it possible.

The Master Test Kit may not include GH, so check the website of your municipal water authority, you might find it there. With a pH of 6.8 it is likely you have softish water, which is good as there are far more suitable soft water fish species for this small a tank, but let's get it pinned down and go from there.
