Hi there...

I am in the process of setting up a new community tank having just lost the last of my ornemental goldfish!

The tank is approx 34 gallons and I am hoping to add the following (eventually!):

3 Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids
2 Flag Cichlids
10 Emperor Tetras
5 Peppered Corydoras (or Bronze Corydoras)
1 Spotted Hoplo

How does this sound in terms of stock level for a tank this size, fish compatibility and the Amazon Basin theme? Also can anyone recommend any plants that would also fit?

sounds ok to me, can't remember how big the hoplo gets, 4"?

cockatoo dwarf cichlids , apisto's?

:good:

flags
peppered corys
and hoplos(5"?)
all like slightly cooler temps.
have you got your tank measurments please?

david

Hello again... thanks for the replies guys!

David, the tank measures H18" W18" L39" (or in case you are metric... H46cm W46cm L100cm).

Thanks,

Dean

Just a quick couple of points on the Hoplo....

They do better in groups as they are quite a social fish, 3 or more ideally. They grow between 4-5", are very hardy and fairly active. You could easily keep 3 in your tank and would see the best of them that way.

Emperors get to 2" and Flags to 7" - is this a wise mix?

I thought Flags got to around 3-4 inches? (EDIT: Oops, I was thinking about the dwarf variety, these "might" work out) I'm not sure how well they would mix with apistos anyway, there could be territorial issues when they breed. I would be inclined to go with only one of these species unless someone here can vouch for compatability. You could then add more emperors or perhaps another tetra species.
