I purchased a 12" female Black Diamond stingray from a local keeper 2 days ago. He has had this ray as a pup for about a year now and keeps several other rays. The ray was active and swimming around his tank before I bought it. When he netted it out, it secreted an orangish colored secretion. It ate the first night I had it, but has not eaten since and is very inactive and breathing heavily. she has a continous whitish grey secretion and looks "full" or "bloated". Water parameters are fine. I have 9 other rays (2 motoro, 2 pearls and 5 BD / Leos)and have been keeping rays for 3 years. There was a post in 2006 where T1Karmann mentioned not moving a full ray. I've also read Epsoms Salts can be of help, but she is not eating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on where you are you could always take some of the poo to specialist for them to examine it for parasites?

Not sure mate, what stats need to be very good for rays, May be a good idea to contact a vet,

All the other rays in the tank where i bought this one from seem fine. I've know the ray keeper for a while and his rays are healthy with no sign of problems. I'm wondering if moving it with a full belly has caused some internal damage to her?

Mate if you know the ray keeper, does he know his stuff with rays, some fish do not fair well once being moved, esp when there mature...please email me, got some good info for you

I've moved my rays on a full bellys a couple of times when my tank leaked and it didnt cause any issues. Is there any sign of any damage or colour change to any of the under side? It may just be taking longer to settle in than the others or something is stressing it out which is causing the heathy breething and lack of appetite.

an additional thing to add is not to start adding anything to the water before you know what you're treating for :)

There is no signs of physical damage, no redness or any markings on her indicating that she has been injured. No swelling on the belly or rearend - just a continous stream of mostly white feces with a bit of coloration here and there. It seems like she is having problems passing food through. Makes me wonder is something happened during the move as she is blocked up. On a positive note, her belly has gone down and she is a bit more active / responsive.
