I've stuck my background on my tank with vasaline but think I used a bit too much and am now having problems getting all the bubbles out. Have be at it with a credit card for about 3 hours or so now and still it isn't totally flat. Any suggestions?
Thanx
Dani

I think that if you put it on with vasaline it makess it too bold and bright. Peronaly i prefere to just stick it on with tape as it makes the background look less bold and more suttle giving your tank a less tacky look

Yeah but now I've got the vasaline on there I think it would be more work to remove it all than just solve this problem. :)

I was thinking about peeing the background off and scraping a lot of the vasaline off and trying again after that. Anyone think it might work or have any other suggestions?

Thanx

If you use one of those squegee (spelling?) things you clean your windshield with it works better. It doesn't take as long. I spent a lot of time getting it right on mine. Also if you put the vasaline on a rag and only rub on a little bit it is easier too. It doesn't take much. (Just a thin even layer) :good:

I had this same problem everytime I tried to put a background on with vasaline. The only way I was able to remove it completely was with rubbing alcohol. Now I just use tape... :p

I used plain ol veg oil!! Worked loke a champ!!

I put the background on my 29 gallon with vaseline but I won't do it again. I had a problems getting the bubbles out but they finally leveled out on their own (yours may or may not). It has now started peeling loose around the edges and looks like crap. And since the back of the tank is only 2" from the wall, there is no way I can get behind it to clean it now. I am considering taking the tank down, cleaning the background, replacing the substrate (I want somthing different) and taping the background on like I used to.

PS: cookie-db, check your spelling of "peeling" in your last post. I first thought you had a new way of removing backgrounds and vaseline.

LOL Wouldn't that have been handy :hyper: I'm normally good at checking my spelling but i guess not :)

I think I put way too much vasaline on so later today I'm going to try peeling it off and removing a lot of the vasaline and hope it helps. I'm going to put tape round the edges as well to hold it on but I like how it looks stuck next to the glass with the vasaline.

Thanx for all your help people and I'll let you know how I get on later

When I did mine, I did it kind of like you do wallpaper (actually used wallpaper hanging tools). You can kind of lift one end and try to smooth from the other to get as many of the big lumps and bubbles out as possible.

I have never even heard of anyone using vasaline to put a background on until now, i guess i will just crawl back into my cave while the world goes by.

Well after hours of messing around trying to remove enough vasaline i ended up just cleaning the lot off and just using tape. Maybe I'd try again with a smaller tank. Can't even see my background at the moment anyway lol

Thanx
Dani
