Sterilizing Plants

What are your preferred / favorite methods for sterilizing new plants, to get rid of snails eggs etc. ?

most suggest using a copper solution for killing snails, i have never tried it or now how to do it. There is also a bleach dip:

19 parts water to 1 part bleach.

My prefered method is check thoroughly, and check again!
