Steps:

1. Bring the plant home
2. Take it out of the bag and wash it under tap water real good and take off all visible snails.
3. Get a container a fill it with regular bleach and tap water with a ratio 19:1, 19 parts being water and 1 part being bleach.
4. Soak the plant in the bleach water mixture for about 30 seconds.
5. Take the plant out and rinse it under tap water again until the bleach smell is gone.
6. Fill another container with as cold tap water as possible and put the plant in there for 2 hours.
7. After two hours take the plant and let it float in your tank for 48 hours.
8. After 48 hours plant your plant.

How does this sound guys, OK?

Is this necessary? I've never heard of aclimatising plants, interesting though.
I can understand why you may want to do points 1 - 5, but why the need for points 6 - 8?

6-8 were told to me by a guy at my lfs who does planted takes with 3wpg and CO2 and I tried it and the plant's roots grew while it was floating but no sure yet why you do that but the 1-5 hasn't failed me yet and haven't had snails yet.

I just rinse and check for snails and eggs takes a little time sometimes i float the plant but i normaly just plant straight away,i would not use the bleach mixture dont think you need to :D

Bleach and my aquarium will never come in contact. There is no need for it, in my opinion. A light rinse should do the trick. Snails are easy to get rid of anyway as long as you don't let them get out of hand.

i use bleach to clean my diffuser all the time..i just soak it in heavily dechlorinated water for a good while before putting it in my tank..as long as you make sure that you dechlorinate it you should have no problems..off topic but has to do with the bleach..sorry

I always use bleach because I don't want a chance of getting snails because I had them before and there a pain to keep killing and you have to take the shells out or else they collect at the bottom of your tank and look bad.

i quite enjoy a little snail fishing each night! Keeps me busy!

Riverman, my thoughts exactly...bleech and my aquarium will never mix!

And with regards to floating....i`m always too impatient and want to see what they look like planted :p hehe. I floated my riccia, glosso and HC tho, since they had hard journeys to get to me :D

I don't mind snail fishing though when you have to do it every night and get your whole arm wet and sometimes you can't get the snails and you have to remove the hood and you have school and track so your not home much it gets to become a pain. I wouldn't mind having snails in my 10 gallon though but haven't gotten any yet, though I'd like it to become a planted tank so who know's what will happen.
