Hey guys, i have a 20g tank that was having a lot of issues (fish dying from ick, brown algae everywhere, etc), so i decided to start all over. It is about 6 months old or so, so it has been running for a long time. i took all of the rocks out, washed them, washed the decorations, put all new water in. So far all i have put in it is the aqua safe in the yellow bottle and an amonia tablet. how long should it run/what else should i put in it and how often. spring break is coming up and i figured i would just let it run for a week. thanks :good:

First thing to do is learn about the nitrogen cycle. Are you going to cycle with fish or without?

buy a test kit and keep checking it until it's perfect. (fishless cycling takes longer but fish are liable o die because of poor conditions if you do it with fish)

I dont think you need to change all the water that many times, you need to do a partial water change, not a total water change, this could be part of the problem. Let us know!

Thanks!

Yeah if you would do like a 25% water change everyweek until your water is set that should help. After your water is set do a 25% water change every other week. Also buying a test kit would really help you in understanding your water a bit more too.

Also if you wanted to do a fish cycle, you could use zebra danios. They work quite well.

Best of luck!
