I am going to be starting the cycle of a new 30 gallon tank. I am going to put media from my established tank in the filter to start out the cycle. I am going to be leaving town for a week, and I would like to keep the bacteria in the filter media, so what do I need to put in the water to keep amonia in there? Is there some kind of ammonia drops you can put in the water? I am not going to have fish in this tank. Thanks for your help

Add ammonia... you will be doing a 'fishless' cycle... if you are worried that the ammonia you have initially added will be 'consumed' by the bacteria from your established filter media within the week you are away... wait... and start the cycle when you get back...

Just add four prawns in a net.

Ive never seen ammonia in a lfs, i got mine from a local DIY store. If you do that make sure its additive free though, has to be pure ammonia. A Good way to test it is shake the bottle up, if it foams its no good, if it doesnt its good to go....
