chris_jt....oscars dont have teeth dude.

i still dont get how an oscar can eat a large crayfish....

and ive heard from heaps of fish stores that worms are bad to feed your oscars or anyfish for that matter.

i bought crickets...heh they love em :hey:

thanks for all your replies.
hehe...oscars certainly have teeth...and i used to feed my adult oscar crays all the time...here's a link to a pic of him... very healthy...kept on a diet of crays crickets and cichlid pellets.

if you cant click on the link cut and paste it.

im sorry man i got told by someone at a fishstore they dont....obviosly he was wrong

i didnt mean to sound rude at all though, i appologise if i did....i just was told by a fish store person and i trusted their knowledge since they work at a fish store and all...i wont be doing that again.

where can i get these crays from? and what size should they be for the oscars to be able to handle them?
will it be messy? im picking by the way they eat their cichlid pellets that it will be :D

yeah dw about it...worms are a natural diet in the wild btw and they RARELY contain diseases. The only time they can, is if they die and their body is left in the water causing it to ruin your water quality

dont worry man you didnt come off as rude at all, thats what we're here for, to help you. i started feeding mine good size crays when he was about 8 to 10 inches. you should be able to get crays at any pet shop for short money. i think i paid a 1.25 each. with my oscar there was no mess at all, he took it in and kept it in, usually oscars take stuff in and spit it out or blow it through their gills. once he sucked up the cray, he never let any slip out, they love em.

awesome....my oscars make a hell of a mess with cichlid pellets! it looks like they are coughing and their gills go in and out, and stuff comes out like all crushed up pellets..it makes the water around them sooo murkey...

so the oscars crack the cray fish's shell and suck there insides out?!
i put they crays in live yeah? my oscars are only about 5.5inches or maybe 6 so i mite have to wait a bit.

whats the most benificial food i can give them? like what will help make them grow up big and strong hehe :flex:

i promise these are my last questions ;)

thanks for all your help for those who have been replying to all my posts and questions. i appreciate it.

live will get them big but high quality pellets will do the trick. if you want them to grow even faster, higher the temp to around 80-81. this will speed the metabolism. i try not to spoil my fish with food so i alternate between pellets and flakes every day

Hi,i feed my oscars, lanc fish, prawns, chicken, cucumber, lettuce banana. oh an worms that i dig up out of the garden.I don't feed live fish to them just incase the fish has anything wrong with it you never no
