Two of my tanks are in my study. This is a converted garage and on the South side of the house so its by far the warmest room in the house. When I finished work today both of these tanks were close to 26 degrees and now that the lights have been on they are hovering just above 27. Heaters normally set at 25.

I have turned the heaters down to 23.5 as there really is no point in heating it to 25 until late September, it will get there all by itself. Room is 24 now so hopefully the tanks will drop a bit overnight. It may actually be the coolest summer my fish have had in a while. Since I will be working in here every day for the foreseeable I predict a portable A/C unit in my not too distant future :). Main tank in a cool room on the North side hasn't reached 25 yet. That heater does not come on until it drops to 23 anyway - but its been a while since I have seen it on.

Post a picture when you can. I hope it works out for you. I have my shrimp tank and RES turtle tank on the south side of the house by a big bay window and have noticed on sunny days the temp rise from 72 degrees to 78.6 degrees, My turtles don't mind but I worry about how hot it will get for the shrimp. I also have my main tank on the north side of the house.

It was 7C in my house this morning. It takes a bit of getting use to but eventually you do. However, when it gets to 3C then it's cold.

Aircon will be for me not the fish ;). Last year the shrimp tank spent around 10-12 weeks where the tank was constantly above 30 degrees (C). The shrimps bred like crazy and so did the MTS. No ill effects though.

no whitespot either :)

Oh well. 27 degrees in the room by 11 this morning. I relented and lugged the portable aircon down from the bedroom. It surprised me that its already cooled the room by 2 degrees (measured at the opposite end of the room) in half an hour. Surprised because its a garage sized room (but longer) and I have to have the window open for the extraction hose. Not really a long term solution so those nice people at Amazon are bringing me an evaporative cooler tomorrow.

No Colin I am not whinging about 27 - but its only May ;) . And once the ceiling cavity heats up it takes months to cool down.
Update: Forgot to hit post earlier :). Tanks are both at 24 now and the room has been maintained at 23.5 for the last few hours. They cooled a lot quicker when I too the lids off. About to call it a day for work so it will be interesting to see what happens with the a/c turned off.

Didnt realise it drops that low in the land down under. Thought it was roasting all year round

I would just leave them on 27C.
Like I said 27 is no problem - aircon was for me. Lots of video call during the work day means I can't sit there with no shirt on.

It depends on which part of the country you live in. Up north it stays above 20C all year, but down south in winter or early spring it can hit 0C or less overnight and averages 15C during the day. In Victoria in the mountains they have snow and ski resorts.

Wow! Snow/Ski resorts in Oz is something i wouldnt expect. Just shows what a big country it is :)

It even snows in Western Australia on rare occasions. A few years ago it snowed in Mount Barker down south. They got an inch of snow. It's kind of a treat because most of Western Australia is desert.
