Good Evening everyone,

My husband and I picked up fish keeping as a hobby about two months ago and we absolutely love it. We have a tropical fish community right now but are considering getting some of the more aggressive Cichlids; however, we don't know which fish work best together. We were planning on getting a 60+ tank depending on how many we decide to get. Any information as to which type of fish to get or any other information on how to get a tank like this up and running would be wonderful!

Thank you all in advance,
Skyler Pugh

How many litres/gallons is the tank?
What are the dimensions of the tank?

Will be a bit easier for me or/and other members of the forum to suggest some fish to you if we know the answers to these... :)

And welcome to the forum :) lots of knowledgable people here to point you in the right direction

I'm a big fan of larger aggressive cichlids! Depending on what type your wanting (SA or African) will depend on wht you can do with a tank the size your speaking. I personally love SA cichlids (oscars, severums, jacks, green terrors and such) but they require very large tanks.

+1 I love SA cichlids :)

That was our issue; we were trying to find out which fish go best together to we could decide on how many we want, add that to their requirements and then start purchasing our tank, rock, plants, etc.. We talked to a few people at petsmart and they said cichlids don't go well with oscars. They pretty much told us it wasn't worth it which is a load of bull..

Also thank you for the welcome!

It really depends on the Oscar. Some oscars will not co-exist with other. I personally have a pair of them, and they share a tnk with severums. They have also shared a tank with Jack Dempseys.
