I've decided to start again with my tank. I have lost a lot of fish so today I took my survivors back to the fish shop  to stop them dying.
I'm going to clean out my tank and basically start again from the day I took it all out of the box. Can anyone recommend what water testing kit I should buy? And suggest some fish I could put in when the tanks ready and I'll start researching in depth.

Also, I'm not 100% on the difference, but could I set up a marine tank rather than tropical in a BiOrb, and could someone tell me the difference?

Thanks

no a biorb is not a suitable marine tank ive been there and done it, and i have the scars to show for it. although i was using the 60 litre, i found a rectangular tank much better!

read up on fishless cycling!

NO NO NO, Its the biorb, they are rubbish, fish prefer a rectangular tank with decent filtration, the filter on the biorbs is rubbish

well said jess, its easy to fall into the biorb trap, i did, they look good and when you dont know muchabout this hobby you cant see any reason to fault them, im not saying there completly useless just keep a few, and i mean a few small fish, like wcmm- go for about 8 and you will be fine- literally you cant go wrong with these fish

White Cloud Mountain Minnows prefer plenty of swimming room and Biorbs aren't ideal for them.
You could keep a single Betta in there but it's not really suited to many fish.

In short, BiOrb's suck. I hate them. I hate looking at them. I hate mine.

If you must keep it though. Fishless cycle it, get a decent test kit. A few small fish will be okay, (platy's,gupies etc.) with weekly water changes.

Cheers

nah my wcmm seem happy in my baby biorb- they arent that bad, although at times i wish i could sell it, but then for the money i would get i could just make it into a gumball machine like a few members suggested a while ago :hyper:

Although they may seem ok, I wouldn't recommend other members adding them to a Biorb as they lack swimming space. :good:

i would not be tempted to keep salt water fish in this tank. A few danios and gouramis are pretty, hardy and easy to keep happy :hey:
