Starting A Planted Tank

hi ive had a tank for a while now but im going to begin again but with a planted tank this time

1.can anyone give me instructions on how to do this successfully

and is there anything special i need for the plants

i have a light but it is very old and covers only half the tank

my tank gets sunlight for about 2 hours in the afternoon

it is a 163 litre 43 gallon tank
