Starting A New Spawn

Well while Kona and Tempest are being conditioned I decided to try spawning fish I've had for over a month who are already in condition. I'm going to try breeding Zanzibar my purple/yellow Super delta to Sweetheart my purple/copper ct. I chose sweetheart for a few reasons, first they but have purple in them, second I love the look of halfsuns and hope ill get a couple out of this spawn, and third she was HUGE I was afraid shed burst from all the eggs so she seemed like a good candidate all around. Now a couple questions. I put Zan in a couple days ago and added the girl yesterday morning, last night he has filled about 1/4 of the Styrofoam cup with bubbles and today they were all gone, and he hasnt been building anymore, he'll flare at the girl then go sit under the cup but not build and just keeps going back and forth. So what should I do, should I release the female for a few hours to give him more incentive? Also sweetheart seems very interested in him but isnt showing any vertical breeding bars, is this normal? Thanks

Wow.....Zan has the most beautiful fins

About his nest though. Do you have a lid or anything covering the top of the tank. The bubbles will stay together better and longer if the tank is covered and also if you can add some IAL this should help too.

I would give them at least another 24hrs and see what happens then. Keep feeding them 3 times a day and make sure your temps are up to 30c. She's dark in colour so it should be easy to see her breeding bars once she gets them.

you live just a bit up the road from me, I find the water in the northeast tends to be hard and does not give to nice bubble nests, you should really try using some IAL, makes a huge difference in the bubble nests my guys make.
