ok so here's the plan...
In preperation for a 240 Litre ( I may further down the line expand again to a 6 foot tank) cichlid tank that I will be making a start on early next year I am setting up a 125 liter tank with 305 external filter, heater etc to learn and expand from..
I am using a substrate of river sand mixed with crushed corel and for about 6 weeks now I've had a stable ph of approx 8.2.
Soon I will be adding about 25kg of ocean rock some Exo Terra Reptile Caves, a few shells etc and mabe some artificial plants. A few weeks later I will be thinking about buying fish..
The 6 foot tank is not 100% so until I know different I am sticking to restrictions of the 240 litre. The 125 will be used both to get going and then as a quarentine tank until the 240 is stocked and then probably as a puffer tank in the future.
I used to live in Preston and had access to a car and some great lfs. I used to be able to look at a few hundred tanks write down the names of the fish that I liked, go home, google and go back and buy if I could meet there requirements.
I now live in York with no access to the car so I'm pretty much only able to use one lfs (a short train ride). They saaid they will order in for me but you need to know what you want and thats where I'm hoping you guys can help..
When stocking I have 2 thoughts either a good mixture or a selected few (maybe breeding pairs).
I'd be quite happy with just a couple of really nice cichlids and a nice syno.
I remember seeing a couple of beautiful wild caught cichlids at a lfs in leyland about 18 month ago that couldn't be housed with anything else. I'd be really happy with somthing like them but I can't remember anylhing other than I really like them.
If I go for a 6 foot tank I do want a Synodontis granulosus (this will be the very last fish I buy to complete the tank)
I am considering a few Synodontis petricola
If at some point I rule out getting the 6 foot tank I may get a smakk group of Synodontis multipunctatus insted.
I don't really fancy parrots, oscars etc but somthing either really varied or just a little bit special.
So basically I'm after as many suggestions as poss from with regards to both what fish to buy and stocking levels etc so I can research and make a decision. There is just too many to keep trowling the net.
Thanks
Pete
