I set it up a 29 gallon tank in the fall. Now, I am setting up an old 10 gallon tank, since I realized I overstocked my 29. (oops, I have a lot to learn) Anyway, I filled up my 10 gallon yesterday, put in "Start Right" to take out the chlorine, and put in my Whisper 30 filter.

I had the bio-filter part of my whisper 30 in my 29 gallon for a couple months. (in my AquaClear powerfilter) This morning, I put some product called "Cycle" in my 10 gallon. Then, I put the bio thing from my whisper 30 back into my whisper. I then took some gravel from my 29, and covered the bottom of the 10 gallon with it. I also just hung the white bio-things from my aquaclear filter in my 10 gallon tank.

So, 10 gallon tank now has gravel and 2 kinds of bio filter media in it. I just transfered my 4 Zebra Danio from my 29 to my 10. I plan to keep them in there alone for a while til I am sure things are stable in both of my tanks. (at least a couple weeks.

So, do you think my approach will work for an almost instant setup of my 10 gallon? I'll monitor amonia in both of my tanks to make sure things are OK, but just wanted to hear from more knowledgeable people about if I should expect problems.

It sounds like you should definately have a good jump start on cycling the tank, if it is not already cycled. Personally, i'd keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite for a week just to make sure that they stay at zero.

Also, this is more an FYI, but i have found Cycle to be totally worthless. I tried it two times and both times it failed miserably. Its generally accepted that Bio Spira is the only product in the US that works, and that is contingent on it being constantly refrigerated.

What you have done should really help you but as said above you should really keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite readings. Test daily and change some water if you have readings of 0.25 or above.
