I'm new here and new to tropical fish so any help is gratefully appreciated. Hopefully I'm posting in the right section!

I've recently bought a Biorb 60 Life and managed to pick up a cheap second hand stand from ebay.

I was a bit uncertain as to whether the stand would hold the weight of the 60l tank, it doesn't look overly strong but none of the stands I've seen do.

I sat on it and it and it held my weight OK which is more than the tank full so it would seem to be OK, although following a bit of research online it seems it was designed for the 30l Tetra Aqua Art stand (although the equivilant 60l stand doesn't look much bigger or stronger).

I know noone probably wants to say it will definitely hold the weight, but I'm just wondering should I go and buy a special Biorb stand or am I probably worrying over nothing?

Right nowI've not filled it right up, so it's only holding about 45 litres.

I take it you weight more than 60kg?

I don't use any prefab stands.  I just make my own with some wood and cinder blocks.  Actually my 10 gallon is on a very study table I got for free from a garage sale.

Oh, and

the forces are going straight down so the stand will take the weight of your tank fine.

however if the "wood" is contiboard/chipboard which is common for such stands do be careful to keep it dry - any water getting into the edges of the wood will reduce its strength to nothing so make sure you wipe up any spillages.

Thanks both for your help. I'll get it filled up and set up.
