Squeaking Cories?!

[malfunction]

Not so long ago, I had my bronze cories in a container as I was moving my tanks. As I observed them to make sure everyone was ok, I'm sure one of them make a high-pitched squeaking sound. Anyone had this before or know what triggers it?

Could be their fins? There is a "talking catfish" that makes a noise by (I believe) rubbing its fins together or something similar.

My pictus catfish make noises as well, kind of a weird humming tone, most likely from rubbing their fins, or their organs/bones together.
 
Munroco is speaking of the spotted or striped raphael btw.

perfectly normal for cories to 'squeak' mine do it all the time. It's nothing to be concerned or worried about

I have no idea why they do it ... I've often wondered myself why they 'squeak'. They don't appear to do through fear or due to spawning .. mine tend to just squeak now and then for no apparent reason. I like to think it's because they are happy
 
I also read once that oto's can squeak too and so some of the 'squeaks' I hear might also be my oto's

Not just the fins, they sometimes push air out of their vent as well that can cause a funny but not fart-like sound..

yep, I've seen my cories 'farting' they shoot up to the surface for a gulp of air and then sit on the bottom with air bubbles coming out of their bums ... make me laugh every time

I've seen mine rise and gulp air, but never noticed the farting afterwards. Maybe it's some kind of intra-group communication - apparently herring do this....

My corys tend to squeak when they are either 1) getting air at the surface, or 2) scared. It's kind of cute. ^.^

Maybe similar to Red/Black Drum or Atlantic Croaker?
 
We go fishing a lot in the Gulf Mexico (sorry, I keep fish and eat them as well, maybe taboo for some...) and Drum and Croaker are known for their 'croaking' or 'drumming' noises, hence the names.  They produce the sounds by rubbing muscles against their swim bladders.  I have heard catfish do this as well.
