Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior):

Morning Everyone, last night i noticed 3 fish fish white spots on their fins 1 with 2 and 2 with 1 spot each. I instantly went looking around on the net at white spot symptoms but to my eye they do not look like ICH.

The spots seem bigger than ich and are very smooth almost looking part of the fin. Also the spots do not look fungus like either.

I have seen some fish flicking but not constantly just every now and again.

I tried a photo but the fish are small and hard to snap.

I might be worrying about nothing but has anyone ever seen this before ?

Which species? Photos? How did they look this morning?

Fish: Platinum Tetra, Glowlight Tetra and a Cardinal Tetra.

They looked exactly the same as last night. I never noticed anymore spots on them.

Sorry no photo they are just to quick.

Hmm, the closest thing is fungus.. observe how it progressed and do some 50% water changes over the next few days, one per day would be good.

Cheers KK ill keep checking on it. Did a 50% last night. I willl do one tonight as well. I am away tomorrow so the next will be Sunday.

Fingers crossed.

Best photo i could get im afraid. Any thoughts on what this could be ?

Im starting to see more spots on the fish i have already noticed with spots last night. Also 2 more seem to have them.

Could this be white spot ?

If so whats best to medicate.

Cheers

Just managed to have a good look at one of the spots and its raised up on the tail not flush.

that's how my ich/ick started. one spot on each of the 2 fish (larger than usual ich), but then it progressed more and more. i actually have a thread here a little below, it's headed smth like this: "treating for ich, but doubt if it's ich at all".

i'm doing quick cure, tomorrow gonna administer second dose.

hope this helps

It could be whitespot, but I think it is more likely to be fungus still.. ich normally starts on body (although not always), from what I have observed.

I would recommend *not* using any medication until you can tell exactly what it is. Fungus will develop furryness and the spots will grow, whitespot will continue as a dusting of spots on the body. In the mean time, do large daily water changes to keep the water pristine: it will help with both diseases.

I use eSHa 2000 for fungus, Sera for whitespot. If treating for ich, increase your water temperature to 29 C or so.

More spots on fish. Looks like white spot. Im planning on a wc tonight and then start a course of treatment.

Anything i should know before i go ahead?

Do extra large water change (50-80% is good), raise temperature to 29 C (I would use warmer water during the water change, then set the heaters to that), and treat. Once treatment is complete, do a 90-95% water change, going by instructions do another treatment if needed, then do another 95% water change and drop temperature to normal (slowly).

Note that some fish will not tolerate such hot water (hillstream loaches, mollies, corys), so be careful. Also some fish (loaches) are extra sensitive to medication, again be careful.. I think half dose is usually prescribed for these.

so instead of 1ml per 10ltr water do 0.5 per 10 ?

From what I understand, that is correct. But I have never had to treat scaleless fish myself, so can't 100% say that it would work.

Just added the secone dose. As it recommend adding the dose on the fourth day without a water change. Then it says wait seven days after the second dose before doing a water change or redpsosing again if needed. This sound ok?

I have noticed a difference in the fish that had spots some are even clear but today my black molly is covered with about six on its body.
