My 4 foot tank has now got an Algae covering the glass, it's like small spots everywhere and is very hard, I can't rub it off or clean it. The tank is not in sunshine, lights come on for a couple of hours in the morning then again in the evening, I use Flourish Exel occasionally. How can I get rid of this Algae.
I apologise if this has been covered but I am just off to work and at present no time to search.

cant help with why its growing, but if youre in the UK, i got a blue scrub sponge from pets at home, and its the best scrubber ive ever seen. it feels very hard, but doesnt scratch the tank (not suitable for acrylic tanks apparantly) and works on the most stubborn algae i or my mates have had. they also do the sponge attatched to a handle if you got a deeper tank.

or piranha's

sounds like green spot algae, it's often attributed to poor flow of water and low CO2 in a planted tank. Excel needs to be dosed daily to see any effect as its half life is only 24 hours max. IME flow really helps this algae, if you can either have a move around where your out flow pipe is and see if that makes a difference, or buy a Koralia pump, this will add extra flow around the tank.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, I am in the UK & will try the sponge. I did clean my filter as it was blocking. Apart from CO2 injection what are other good ways of plant growing which may defeat the algae.
