Spooky Growth On Plant

I have a java fern, not that big that has like wierd spiny stick growths on it, it seems to be growing from the little black dots on the back of the leaves, is this normal, and is this a harm to my fish, i will try and get photo's, just need to take them first

Oh so nothing to worry about?, so can i make new java ferns, do you know how?

Let them grow larger and they will drop off, or you can pull them off once they have a root system.

Takes a long time either way.
